This past Father's Day I came across a touching article in Parade Magazine about President Obama's first Father's Day in the White House. It is so refreshing to see our President setting such a great example for his daughters of what every man should aspire to be like. The article made me reflect on the relationship I have with my Dad and how blessed I am to have him in my life. My father has always made my mother and I his priorities and provided us with a wonderful life. Because of my father's example I learned early on what expectations to have out of a man and never needed to be in a relationship to feel validated or loved. My father taught me to be strong, always respect myself, to be classy and hold my head up high. It is because of his love, strength, and example that I am a strong, independent woman who knows a good Dad when she sees one!
So, today I want congratulate all the fathers out there who are working hard to provide for their children. I say "thank you" to those who are setting great examples for their sons, showing them how to be respectable men. And to those who are teaching their daughters to love themselves first and a man second. Be proud of yourselves and your children! We need more fathers out there like you!
"That is why we need fathers to step up, to realize that their job does not end at conception; that what makes you a man is not the ability to have a child but the courage to raise one. " ~ President Barack Obama
